Located in the southwest of Shanghai and on the northern shore of Hangzhou
Bay, Jinshan District is the center of the economic zone covering Shanghai,
Hangzhou, Nanjing and Zhoushan, and the hub of Yangtze Delta Area. It adjoins
Pinghu and Jiashanof Zhejiang Province in the west, the Fengxian District of
Shanghai in the east, the Songjiang District and Qingpu District in the north.
The district has a total area of 586 square kilometers, covering 14 towns and 1
residential area. Its population is 550,000.
Jinshan has a highway network including Hu Hang, Tong San, and Xin Feng Jin
Highway. The Jinshan Branch Route of Hu Hang Railway reaches Jinshan¡¯s town
center directly. In its southern seaside area, there are sea routes to Zhoushan
and Ningbo starting from Shen Yong Dock for Automobiles and Passengers. The
branches of the Hang Pu River flows by every town of the district, and become
the main arteries of river transportation. By 2005, a highway network of ¡®three
verticals and two horizontals¡¯ and a regional road network of ¡®six verticals and
horizontals¡¯ will have been constructed. After the Hangzhou Bay Trans-oceanic
Bridge is built, Jinshan District will become the gateway to Shanghai form the
Zhejiang Province. Also, after the completion of Jia Jin Highway, it will take
much less time to go northward and leave Shanghai.
Jinshan District has 23.3 kilometers coast line, of which 12.5 kilometers can
be developed.
Its three islands, Da Jin Shan, Xiao Jin Shan, and Fu Shan, are 6.2
kilometers from the seashore, the only places in Shanghai that have not been
polluted at all. They have many ancient plants and scarce animals that have
disappeared on the main land area of Shanghai. |
