In its southern seaside area, there are sea routes to Zhoushan and Ningbo starting from Shen Yong Dock for Automobiles and Passengers. The branches of the Hang Pu River flows by every town of the district, and become the main arteries of river transportation. By 2005, a highway network of ¡®three verticals and two horizontals¡¯ and a regional road network of ¡®six verticals and horizontals¡¯ will have been constructed. After the Hangzhou Bay Trans-oceanic Bridge is built, Jinshan District will become the gateway to Shanghai form the Zhejiang Province. Also, after the completion of Jia Jin Highway, it will take much less time to go northward and leave Shanghai.

Jinshan District has 23.3 kilometers coast line, of which 12.5 kilometers can be developed.

Its three islands, Da Jin Shan, Xiao Jin Shan, and Fu Shan, are 6.2 kilometers from the seashore, the only places in Shanghai that have not been polluted at all. They have many ancient plants and scarce animals that have disappeared on the main land area of Shanghai.
